still kind of bummed about this honestly but figured i'd post it because maybe it helps someone avoid the same mistake. was out at a reservoir near my house, beautiful calm morning, water was like glass and i wanted to get some reflections shots. had the drone maybe 80 meters out over the water and about 30m altitude.

what happened is i switched to sport mode to reposition quickly and then forgot i was in sport mode. obstacle avoidance turns off in sport mode on the air 2 obviously but i guess i just wasnt thinking. there was a thin power line running across part of the reservoir that i honestly didnt even know was there, couldnt see it on the camera feed until basically the second it was too late. drone clipped it and went straight down into the water.

i did have DJI Care Refresh so i got a replacement but it cost me the replacement fee and also just the whole experience was horrible, standing at the edge of the water watching it sink. moral of the story i guess is always scout the area first and be really careful about switching modes mid flight and forgetting what mode youre in. the power line was totally invisible against the sky until it wasnt

oof that's rough, sorry that happened. power lines are genuinely one of the scariest things to deal with because cameras just dont pick them up well especially thin ones against a bright sky. glad you had refresh though, that peace of mind is worth every penny when something like this happens. i've started doing a slow low pass of any new area before i go up high just to check for stuff like that, adds like two minutes but its saved me from a few sketchy situations

the sport mode thing catches so many people off guard, theres no big warning when you switch, the little S indicator on the screen is easy to forget about when youre concentrating on the shot. i actually put a piece of bright orange tape on the sport mode toggle on my controller as a physical reminder, sounds dumb but it works for me. also some people remap their controller so sport mode requires an extra step to engage, might be worth looking into depending on your setup

and yeah DJI refresh paying out like that is basically the whole reason to get it, for flying over water especially its kind of a no brainer even if you think youre a careful pilot
