mini 3 pro vs air 3 ? is the price difference actually worth it

  • Members

so ive been going back and forth on this for like two weeks now and i cant make up my mind. currently have a mini 2 which i love but im ready to upgrade. the mini 3 pro feels like the obvious next step but then i keep looking at the air 3 and thinking maybe i should just save up a bit more and get that instead.

main thing i shoot is landscape stuff, some travel content, occasional family stuff at the beach or whatever. i dont do any professional work or anything like that. the omnidirectional obstacle avoidance on the air 3 is tempting because i've had a few close calls flying around trees. but the mini 3 pro is still under 249g which matters to me since i travel a lot and the weight regulations thing is genuinely useful.

anyone who has used both or switched between them ? was it a noticeable difference in actual use or does it feel similar day to day

had the mini 3 pro for about eight months before i grabbed an air 3 refurb and honestly the image quality jump is real but its not like night and day. the thing that surprised me most was how much i missed the weight exemption once i went to the air 3. had a trip to europe this summer and got stopped twice about registration even though i sorted it beforehand. for travel the mini 3 pro just makes life easier, the video quality is more than good enough for anything non-commercial.

if you're not doing paid work i'd genuinely just go mini 3 pro and spend the leftover money on ND filters or a good bag. the obstacle avoidance on the air 3 is better but the mini 3 pro's isn't bad either, you just lose the upward and rear sensors which honestly i've only needed a handful of times.
