switched from building my own to a prebuilt, honestly not as bad as i expected

so ive been building 5inch quads for like 4 years now and always kind of looked down on prebuilts, you know how it is on these forums. but i just grabbed a Diatone Roma F5 V2 because i was tired of waiting on parts and honestly i was just curious. took it out over the weekend and i was actually surprised. motors feel solid, welds on the frame look decent, and the betaflight tune it came with wasnt totally garbage ? needed some adjustments on the D term and the rates felt a bit sluggish out of the box but nothing crazy. the ESC stack they threw in there is fine for what it is, 45amp 4in1 i think. not the end of the world.

obviously the vtx antenna placement is a little whatever, moved it almost immediately, and the camera angle felt too flat for my flying style but thats like a 2 min fix. overall im not telling people to stop building but if youre short on time or just want something to fly on a tuesday night without troubleshooting for 2 hours, a decent prebuilt isnt the terrible option i always assumed it was. anyone else been running this frame or had similar experience coming from a building background?

yeah honestly the stigma around prebuilts is kind of outdated at this point. a few years ago the answer was always "just build your own" but the margins on components have tightened up enough that some of these manufacturers are actually putting reasonable gear in the boxes now. i ran an iFlight Nazgul for most of last year and the only thing i swapped pretty quickly was the capacitor, it was way undersized for how i was flying. rest of it held up fine.

the betaflight tunes they ship with are usually the bigger issue in my experience. its like they just grab a generic 5inch tune and call it done. takes maybe an hour of blackbox work to get it actually flying the way you want but once you do its genuinely not that different from something you put together yourself. frame quality varies a lot by brand though, diatone stuff tends to hold up better than some of the cheaper options.

wait so the Roma F5 comes with a 4in1 45amp stack now? i thought the older version had the 35amp. might actually look into this, ive been going back and forth on just buying one cause im new to 5inch and dont really want to debug a custom build before i even know how to fly it properly lol
