ok so i know these are basically different categories of quad but hear me out. im going on a trip in about 3 weeks, mostly outdoor wide open spaces, some light trees, no super tight proximity stuff. i currently dont have anything flying because my last 5inch is in pieces waiting on a new stack and i kind of want to just grab something ready to go and not deal with it. been looking at the iFlight Nazgul5 V2 and also the Flywoo Crux35 which i know is a 3.5inch so its not exactly a fair comparison.

the Crux35 appeals to me because it packs smaller and i can throw it in carry-on without worrying but the Nazgul5 is gonna be so much more fun in open space and the video quality difference on the caddx polar vs whatever the crux ships with is noticeable. i dont know. the Nazgul also needs a better tune out of the box last time i checked, at least thats what i remember reading. has anyone flown both recently or have a take on this? weight limits on the trip arent an issue its more just convenience vs performance thing.

flew the Nazgul5 V2 for a few months, the default tune is fine if you fly smooth but if you push it at all youre gonna want to bump up the D term a bit and the filters feel over-cooked to me out of the box, motors ran warmer than they should. once i cleaned up the filtering and ran some quick autotune sessions it was genuinely a really good cruiser. open spaces thats where it shines.

cant speak to the Crux35 directly but 3.5inch for wide open flying just feels like leaving performance on the table. you'll notice the difference in windy conditions pretty quick. if the trip is mostly outdoors and open i'd take the 5inch every time. just retune it when you land the first day and youre good for the rest of the trip.

tbh i think youre overthinking this a little. both will fly. the crux is just easier to travel with and a 3.5inch isnt as underpowered as people act like it is, especially if its just cruising and not racing. that said if youre going somewhere with actual space and good weather the 5inch will feel better, theres no way around that. depends how much you care about the hassle at the airport i guess
