so i finally pulled the trigger and bought a drone, its the mini 3 or whatever the dji one is called, anyway i took it out yesterday in my backyard and nearly flew it into my neighbors fence like immediately. i dont really know if i should be practicing something specific or just flying around until i get a feel for it. also do i need to register it somewhere or is that only for bigger ones? i live in the US if that matters. just feeling kind of overwhelmed tbh, theres so many settings and i dont even know what half of them do

the registration thing depends on weight, if its over 250 grams you gotta register with the FAA, pretty sure the mini 3 is right at or under that limit but double check anyway its like 5 bucks and takes 10 minutes. for learning i'd honestly just stay in beginner mode for a while, most people turn it off way too soon and then wonder why they crashed. also flying in a big open field instead of your backyard will save you a lot of stress early on, even just a park or empty lot makes a huge difference

yeah dont worry too much about the settings at first, half of that stuff you wont touch for months. i spent the first two weeks just doing basic hovering and slow figure eights, boring as hell but it actually helped. the urge to go fast and do cool stuff is real but you'll just crash and then feel bad lol. also youtube has some decent beginner tutorials if you look up your specific model, helps to see what all the menu stuff actually does
