how long does it actually take to get good at this

been flying for maybe 3 weeks now, i have a cheap-ish drone, not a dji just some budget thing i got to learn on before spending real money. im getting better i think but idk how to tell honestly. like i can hover okay and fly in a straight line but any time i try to do anything more interesting it goes sideways. is there a point where it just kind of clicks or is it always this frustrating. also my friend said i should get a simulator but that seems weird to me, flying a fake drone on a computer doesnt seem like it would help with the real thing

simulators actually help way more than you'd expect, i was skeptical too but the muscle memory for the sticks translates pretty well. Velocidrone or even Liftoff if you have the patience to set it up. obviously its not identical but for learning orientation and basic control inputs its legit useful, and you dont crash a real aircraft. the "click" moment is real though, one day it just feels less panicky

honestly 3 weeks is nothing, i felt like garbage for like the first two months. the thing that helped me most was just flying the same spot over and over so i wasnt also dealing with unfamiliar surroundings at the same time. once the flying part felt automatic then i started going new places. also wind will humble you fast if you havent dealt with that yet, even light wind on a budget drone is a whole different thing than calm conditions
