been doing mapping for a construction company and they want me to switch from the basic dji app to something more professional. i know pix4d and dronedeploy are the big names but cant figure out which one would be better for our use case. mostly doing weekly progress shots of earthworks and foundation pours, need accurate volume calculations and client reports that dont look like garbage. budget isnt really an issue but i dont want to overpay for features we'll never use

anyone have experience with both? the pix4d trial seemed pretty complex but maybe thats just the learning curve

dronedeploy is way more user friendly imo, especially if you're coming from basic apps. their cloud processing means you dont need a beast of a computer and the reports look professional right out of the box. volume calculations are solid too, we use it for gravel pit surveys all the time

pix4d definitely has more advanced features but unless you need like super precise surveying grade accuracy the extra complexity might not be worth it. dd's subscription is cheaper too i think

i actually went the opposite direction lol, started with dronedeploy then switched to pix4d mapper. yeah the interface is more complex but once you get used to it the processing quality is noticeably better. especially for volumetrics where accuracy really matters. plus you own the software instead of paying monthly forever

that said if your clients just want basic progress reports dronedeploy might be overkill anyway. have you looked at webodm at all? open source option that might work for construction stuff
