getting washed out sky in all my photos lately

  • Members

so ive been flying my mini 3 for about 6 months now and lately every single shot i take the sky is just completely blown out white. even when its not that bright outside. im shooting in auto mode mostly but tried manual a few times and still having issues. the foreground looks ok but sky is just gone

anyone else deal with this? thinking maybe i need to mess with the exposure settings more but not sure where to start

yeah auto mode will do that to you especially if you have bright foreground elements. try switching to manual and underexpose by like -0.7 to -1.0 stops. also make sure youre not pointing the camera directly at the sun or bright clouds. graduated nd filter helps too if your drone can take filters

I had the same problem when I started! What really helped me was learning to expose for the highlights instead of the shadows. You can always bring up the dark areas in post but once those highlights are blown theres no getting them back. Also try shooting in RAW if you arent already, gives you way more flexibility in editing
