Motor getting hot after minor crash, should i be worried?

  • Members

so i had a pretty gentle crash yesterday, nothing major just clipped a tree branch and went down maybe 8 feet into some grass. drone seemed fine afterwards and i flew it for another 10 minutes no problem

but today when i was doing some hover tests i noticed the front right motor is getting noticeably warmer than the others after just a couple minutes of flight. not burning hot but definitely warmer to touch

is this something that usually sorts itself out or should i be looking at replacing the motor? its a 2306 2400kv and ive only had the quad for like 3 months. really dont want to spend $30 on a new motor if i dont have to but also dont want it failing mid flight

yeah that doesnt sound good man. even a gentle crash can knock the motor shaft slightly out of alignment or damage the bearings. if one motor is running hotter than the others thats usually a sign of increased friction somewhere

you could try taking the prop off and spinning the motor by hand to see if it feels rougher than the others but honestly if its noticeably warm after just a few minutes i'd replace it before it fails completely. better to spend $30 now than have it cut out at 100ft

Had this exact thing happen to my 5 inch build last year. Motor was running warm after what seemed like nothing, kept flying it thinking it would be fine. Three weeks later it locked up completely during a fast forward flight and i had to rebuild half the quad from the crash

learned my lesson about ignoring hot motors. check if the motor screws are still tight too, sometimes they can loosen up from impact and cause vibration which makes things run hot
