New to drones - What should I know before my first flight?

Just got my first drone (DJI Mini 3) and I'm super excited but also nervous about flying it! What are the most important things I should do before taking it up for the first time? I keep reading about calibration and pre-flight checks but honestly feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the advice out there.

Any tips for a complete newbie would be really appreciated!

I was in your exact position 3 months ago! Always read the manual thoroughly, paying attention to safety instructions, calibration procedures, and emergency functions like Return-to-Home (RTH). A great drone flight begins long before takeoff. Unfold and secure the propellers, charge the battery fully, and make sure your camera and sensors are in working order. Trust me, the prep work saves you from crashes later.

Welcome to the drone community! The most crucial things: read your manual thoroughly, calibrate your compass and IMU in your flying location, and start with short flights in beginner mode. Your DJI Mini 3 has excellent stability features, so don't worry too much - just take it slow!

The first step in successful flying is vetting a suitable, legal location. Beginners should look for open fields and avoid crowded areas to minimize obstacles. Download the B4UFLY app to check if you're in legal airspace. Slowly push the left joystick up to take off and practice hovering just a few feet off the ground. Once you feel comfortable, add in gentle movements forward or sideways.
