mavic 3 firmware update bricked my color profiles or am i missing something

  • Members

ok so this has been bugging me for like three days. pushed the latest firmware update on my Mavic 3 Classic last week, the one that dropped mid-month, and ever since then my D-Log M footage looks different in resolve. not drastically different but the shadows are doing something weird and my usual LUT is now clearly off, like the whites are blowing slightly earlier than they used to

i dont know if DJI actually changed something in the color science or if its just my imagination playing tricks. i did update the drone AND the RC Pro at the same time so i cant isolate which one caused it if anything did

shot a test card before and after and they do look different side by side but im not 100% sure its not just a white balance thing i screwed up. anyone else notice anything after that update or am i going crazy

youre probably not crazy, there were a few people on the DJI forum and also the cinema color facebook group talking about this same thing. i think DJI quietly adjusted something in the D-Log M tone mapping at some point but nobody official has said anything about it which is super annoying

the thing with updating the RC and drone at same time is yeah you cant really tell which changed what. what i'd do is grab the previous firmware version file from DJI's release page (they still host old ones if you dig around) and roll the drone back only, then reshoot your test card and compare. tedious but itll at least tell you if its drone side or controller side

also double check your color space transform in resolve, sometimes after a firmware change ive seen people accidentally have the wrong gamut selected and that matches the symptom you're describing with the highlights

honest question ? are you shooting in the same lighting conditions for both tests? shadows behaving different could easily just be the sun angle or cloud cover changing. i've convinced myself firmware broke something before and then realized i was just comparing clips from different times of day lol

not saying youre wrong just worth ruling out before you go down the rollback rabbit hole
