alright so maybe a dumb question but the listed max takeoff weight for the Inspire 2 is around 4kg and with the X7 and a lens you're already pretty close to that. i've seen people online talking about attaching small accessories, like a follow focus motor or extra antennas for certain broadcast setups, and i'm wondering how strict that limit actually is in practice

obviously i understand why the limit exists and im not trying to do anything stupid, just trying to understand the real world margin here because on paper it feels like there's almost no headroom for anything beyond the stock camera config

has anyone actually pushed it slightly over and what happened, did it just fly differently or did you get warnings or what

the short answer is it's not a hard software lock or anything, the drone doesn't refuse to take off if you're a bit over, but you will notice it. responsiveness gets sluggier, climb rate drops, and more importantly your battery life takes a real hit which starts affecting your flight planning. on a hot day that's when it gets genuinely sketchy because motor temps go up and youre already working the batteries harder

for a small follow focus motor or a lightweight accessory youre probably fine in normal conditions but id do a hover test close to the ground first and watch your motor temp telemetry before going anywhere near a real shoot with it

this has been bugging me for a while actually because i do a bit of broadcast work and the clients always want something extra bolted on and you end up in this grey area. what i found is that the CG shift matters almost as much as the raw weight, even a small thing mounted in the wrong spot throws off the gimbal compensation and you get weird horizon drift that's subtle enough that you might not catch it until post and then it's too late. learned that one the hard way on a job i'd rather forget
