ok so this is partly a cautionary tale and partly just me venting. was flying near santorini off this cliff path at sunset, wind was calm when i launched but then out of nowhere it just picked up hard, like the kind that comes off the water with zero warning. air 2s was fighting it pretty good but i had drifted way out over the water chasing the shot and the battery was already at like 22%.

ended up triggering return to home and just watched it crawl back against the wind for what felt like forever. made it back with 8% which i know is fine technically but my heart was going. also had no idea if greece had any rules about flying near the caldera, i just kind of assumed it was ok which was probably dumb in retrospect

greece is actually pretty relaxed compared to a lot of europe but theres definitely restricted zones and the santorini area specifically has some airspace stuff because of the airport. you probably got lucky nobody said anything. that wind scenario sounds horrible though, ive been in similar spots and the rth just crawling home is genuinely stressful to watch

8% landing is fine but yeah that wind off the aegean is no joke, it just appears. i always check windy.com obsessively when im flying anywhere coastal now, the altitude layers on that app are actually useful for seeing what the wind is doing higher up before you commit to a flight over water
