group flights are kind of a mess tbh

so went to my second group fly event thing yesterday and i dunno, maybe i just had bad expectations but it felt kind of chaotic. like 8 or 9 people all launching at the same time in a fairly small field, nobody really coordinating altitudes or anything, and at one point two fpv guys were basically crossing paths while a couple dji pilots were just hovering right in the middle of everything. nothing crashed but it felt like it was close a few times. am i overthinking this or does this bother anyone else? i get that its supposed to be casual and fun but still feels like someone should at least do a quick briefing on whos flying where or something

yeah the good events have someone acting as a de facto flight director even if its informal. like someone just saying hey fpv guys take the low fast passes on the left side, everyone else stay above 50ft kind of thing. sounds like the one you went to just didnt have that. some clubs are really organized about it, others are just a free for all. worth finding a club that actually has a bit of structure if you're gonna go regularly

honestly same experience at the one i went to, felt a bit sketchy at times. i think a lot of hobby flyers just dont think about airspace management the way like actual club members do. the AMA affiliated events ive heard are usually more organized but i havent been to one myself yet so cant really say for sure
