so ive been running dominator hd3s for like 3 years now and honestly they still work fine but everyone in my local group has moved to walksnail avatar and the footage they're getting looks insane compared to my analog setup. i know analog has its latency advantages and yeah the penetration through trees and buildings is still better but i mostly fly park and open field stuff so that's not really my concern.

main thing holding me back is the price obviously but also i have a ton of money already sunk into analog vtx gear across like 6 quads. i know you can run a module in the hd3s but ive also heard the experience isn't great compared to just getting the avatar goggles natively. anyone actually run both setups side by side and can tell me if the latency is actually noticeable in normal flying or only if you're doing aggressive racing

ran both for a few months when i was making the same decision. the latency on walksnail is around 22ms in low latency mode which is totally fine for anything except gate racing at high speed. analog on a good 5.8 setup you're looking at like 8-12ms depending on your vtx and receiver combo, so there is a real difference but its not night and day for cruising or freestyle. the image quality jump is honestly massive though, first time i flew avatar i kept thinking my dvr had somehow replaced the live feed, its that clean.

the module adapter route is not worth it imo, adds bulk and the heat dissipation on the hd3s isnt great with the module running hot. if you're serious about switching just bite the bullet and get the goggles 2 or wait for the v3 which people keep saying is coming. sell a couple of your analog quads to offset the cost

i made the jump last year and dont regret it but i'll say the one thing nobody really warns you about is how much the antenna placement on the avatar goggles matters. like i was getting weird breakups in places i never had issues with analog and it turned out i was just blocking the antennas with my hand on the strap. switched to a set of aftermarket stubby lhcp antennas on the goggles and put a decent pagoda on the quad and it sorted most of it out. the stock antennas that come with the kit are honestly mediocre
