so this might be a dumb question but ive been doing more real estate and some landscape work lately and the Air 3 camera is honestly fine for most stuff, the dual camera setup is convenient, but i keep running into situations where the dynamic range just isnt cutting it in high contrast scenes ? golden hour stuff especially where the sky goes completely white or the shadows crush way earlier than i want.

ive been looking at options and started going down the rabbit hole of third party payload systems and whether it makes sense to move to something like a Mavic 3 Pro or even jump to a heavier platform that can carry a proper mirrorless. the thing is i do like how portable the Air 3 is and a larger rig changes everything logistically. part of me wonders if i should just get better at grading or use ND filters smarter, but part of me thinks the sensor itself is the actual ceiling im hitting. anyone made this kind of jump and actually felt the difference was worth it in commercial work

yeah the Air 3 sensor is decent but youre right that it has a ceiling. i moved from an Air 2S to a Mavic 3 Classic specifically for the Hasselblad color profile and the extra stop or two of dynamic range and it genuinely made a difference in high contrast shots ? not night and day but enough that i stopped reaching for exposure bracketing in every tricky situation. that said jumping to a mirrorless payload on something like an M600 or a custom heavy lifter is a whole different workflow. youre talking wayyyy more preflight time, permits become more complicated depending on where you fly, and the gimbal tuning alone is its own part time job. for real estate i honestly dont think you need to go that far, the Mavic 3 range would probably solve your actual problem without blowing up your whole setup.

the grading thing only gets you so far ? if the data isnt captured in the sensor its not coming back in post, thats just how it works. but also have you tried shooting D-Log M and actually working with that in your grade? a lot of people shoot the Air 3 in standard profiles and then wonder why they cant recover highlights, the log profile gives you a lot more to work with than people expect from that camera. might be worth messing with before spending money on a whole new platform
