so i was reading through the latest FAA bulletins and it looks like they're starting to actually push enforcement on remote ID a bit harder than before, at least in certain airspace classes. i fly mostly in class G out in rural areas so i figured i was kind of under the radar (no pun intended) but my buddy got a visit from a local law enforcement guy who apparently was given some basic training on checking for broadcast compliance.

not saying it was a huge deal, they were pretty chill about it from what he told me, but it made me realize i should double check my setup. im running a DJI Mini 4 Pro which has it built in so i think im fine but i have an older 5 inch freestyle quad that definitely doesnt have a module on it yet. been putting that off forever.

curious if anyone else has had any real world encounters with this or if its still mostly theoretical enforcement for now. also heard there might be some updates to the LAANC system coming but couldnt find anything concrete on that

yeah the enforcement thing is real but its very inconsistent right now depending on where you are. i talked to someone at a local flying club who works adjacent to the FAA and basically the agency is relying a lot on complaints and coordination with local PD rather than doing sweeps themselves. so if youre flying somewhere remote and not bothering anyone youre probably fine for a while longer.

that said i wouldnt wait too long on that freestyle quad. the Bluemark DBM200 module is like 50 bucks and takes maybe 20 minutes to set up, runs off a spare uart on your flight controller. honestly once i did it i stopped thinking about it. the peace of mind is worth more than the hassle i was imagining it would be.

wait so if i have a DJI drone that already has remote ID built in i dont need to do anything extra right? i just got an Air 3 a few months ago and i assumed i was good but now im second guessing myself after reading this thread lol
