switching from DJI Agras to a Chinese knockoff brand - anyone done this

  • Members

so ive been running a T40 for about 8 months now and honestly the thing is great but the cost per acre when you factor in maintenance and the DJI service contracts is starting to hurt. a guy at a field day last month was showing me his XAG P100 setup and the numbers he was quoting seemed almost too good. like significantly cheaper per tank refill operation and the terrain following on their radar system looked solid.

has anyone here actually made that jump away from the Agras lineup to something else, whether thats XAG or TTA or any of the other Chinese platforms that dont have the same brand recognition here. im in the midwest so mostly flat corn and soy but we do some rolling ground for a client in southern iowa that has given the T40 fits a couple times with the obstacle avoidance getting confused on tree lines.

main thing im worried about is parts availability and whether the mission planning software is anywhere near as polished. the DJI Agras app is honestly pretty good once you learn it.

ran a TTA M8A for a season before going back to Agras and honestly the spraying performance wasnt the issue - coverage was fine, the boom and atomizer setup is solid hardware. the problem was everything around it. mission planning felt like it was designed by someone who never actually stood in a field, support was basically email only with like a 3 day response time, and finding replacement arms after a tip-over took almost 6 weeks. that killed me mid-season on a contract.

the XAG stuff i hear is better on the support side if youre near one of their dealer networks but i have no direct experience. for what its worth the T40 terrain radar in hilly stuff really is a step above most competitors right now, that active phased array radar isnt something the cheaper platforms have figured out yet.
