gap rc vs iflight prebuilts ? anyone actually flown both back to back

  • Members

ok so this has been bugging me for a while. everywhere i look people are either firmly in the gap rc camp or the iflight camp and i cant find anyone whos actually owned both at the same time and done a real comparison. most reviews are just unboxing videos where they hover it for 30 seconds and call it a day.

i currently have the gap rc mark 5 hd and i like it fine but im curious about the iflight chimera series for a travel/lighter setup. the weight difference on paper looks meaningful but i dunno if it translates to actual feel in the air or if its one of those things that only matters on a spec sheet.

specifically care about how they handle in tighter spaces, prop wash handling, and how the vtx holds up because mine on the mark 5 gets weirdly warm sometimes. frame durability is secondary for me i dont crash that hard anymore lol. anyone have actual hands on time with both these things

had both at the same time last year actually. the chimera is noticeably lighter and you can feel it on quick direction changes, like it snaps around a bit easier. but the mark 5 felt more planted to me, especially in windy conditions. propwash on the chimera stock tune was worse in my experience, took more filtering tweaks to clean it up. the mark 5 came dialed in better out of box imo.

the vtx thing on the mark 5, yeah i had that too. i ended up just making sure the airflow path wasnt blocked by how i routed my camera cable. dumb fix but it helped a lot. not sure if thats your issue but worth checking before assuming its a component problem

i dont have the chimera specifically but i flew a friends gap rc vs my nazgul v2 back to back once and honestly the differences people obsess about online feel way smaller when youre actually flying. like yes there are differences but if youre not a competition pilot it probably doesnt matter as much as the youtube guys make it seem. just my two cents, tune matters more than the frame in my experience
