so i bought a DJI mini 2 last week after like 3 months of researching and i still feel completely lost. i did the tutorial in the app and crashed it into my couch on the first day which was embarrassing even though nobody was watching lol. anyway my main question is like... how do you actually get good at this? do i just keep flying in my backyard or is there a better way to practice? i dont want to take it anywhere public until im more confident but my backyard is pretty small and theres trees everywhere. also should i be worried about the return to home thing, it seems to activate randomly sometimes and i dont really understand when it does it

the couch thing happens to literally everyone, dont stress it. for actually getting better i'd say just keep flying low and slow in your backyard honestly, even if its small. the muscle memory for the sticks is the main thing you need early on and you can build that anywhere. once you feel okay hovering and doing basic movements without thinking too hard, then start going out somewhere with more space.

on the RTH thing -- it triggers when it loses signal from the controller, or when battery hits whatever percentage you set in the app. you can change the battery threshold yourself so check your safety settings. it also does it if you manually press and hold the RTH button which is easy to hit by accident when youre just starting out.

i was in almost exactly the same spot like 4 months ago with my first mini. what helped me was finding a big empty field nearby and just doing really boring stuff for a while -- like hovering in one spot for as long as possible, then slow figure eights, stuff like that. sounds dull but you start to feel the difference in the sticks pretty fast. trees in your backyard is honestly good practice eventually but yeah maybe not day one lol
