how long does it actually take to not be terrible at flying

been flying my drone for about three weeks now, its a cheap one i got off amazon (holy stone i think?) and i can hover okay but any time i try to actually fly somewhere and come back i get all turned around. like if the drone is facing toward me i keep going the wrong direction because the controls feel backwards. does this ever just click or is there some trick to it. also not sure if it matters but im flying in sport mode which my friend told me to turn off but i dont really know why
