So i've been flying the original Avata for about a year and a half now, mostly indoor stuff and some tight outdoor spots in manual mode, and honestly it's been solid. But i keep seeing people rave about the Avata 2 and i cant tell if its a genuine improvement or just the usual 'new thing hype'.

The thing that gets me is the obstacle sensing. On paper it sounds great but ive heard mixed things about how well it actually works in practice especially at speed. And the image quality bump ? is that noticeable in real world footage or only when you pixel peep on a big monitor.

Im not made of money so if the original still holds up im happy to keep using it. Anyone actually used both back to back?

had the original from launch and picked up the Avata 2 about three months ago. honestly the low light performance alone was enough to justify it for me, the original got pretty gnarly above iso 800 and the 2 handles it a lot better. the obstacle sensing is... fine. i wouldnt trust it in a dense forest at any real speed but for general flying it saves you from dumb mistakes. the manual mode on the 2 also feels more responsive to me, like the tune is just tighter out of the box. that said if youre already comfortable on the original and not shooting in low light a lot, probably not urgent.

the goggles 3 integration is probably the bigger deal if you ask me, the passthrough and the new UI is way nicer than the goggles 2 setup. but if you already have goggles 2 and youre happy with them then yeah the camera upgrade alone might not move the needle that much for everyday use
