my editing workflow is a mess and taking forever, anyone else struggle with this

so anyway i finally sat down to edit the footage from a trip i did like three weeks ago and i have 47gb of clips and i genuinely dont know where to start. i feel like i spend more time scrubbing through stuff than actually editing. right now im using premiere and i just dump everything into a bin and start watching but by the time ive gone through it all i've forgotten what i liked at the beginning and its just chaos.

does anyone have like an actual system for this? i feel like the real videographers must have some kind of workflow because theres no way they just wing it every time. also im color grading on a regular laptop screen which i suspect is part of why my colors look fine in premiere but then weird when i post them. or maybe thats a different issue entirely, i dont know

the screen thing is definitely real, even a decent monitor calibrated wrong will mess you up. but the bigger issue sounds like your organization on import. what i do is rate clips in the field review session first ? i go through everything at like 4x speed just to flag the ones worth keeping, delete the obvious garbage, and then i only ever bring the flagged stuff into a sequence. cuts the overwhelm down massively. in premiere you can use the star ratings in the project panel for this, or just make a "selects" bin and drag stuff over as you go

omg 47gb i feel this so much. i started using DaVinci Resolve instead of premiere a few months ago and honestly the media management is way better for this kind of thing, plus the color tools are just built in so you dont need seperate plugins. theres a bit of a learning curve but theres so many good youtube tutorials. not saying switch everything just maybe worth looking at if you keep hitting walls
