thinking about swapping to a heavier payload camera, is the Inspire 2 actually worth it over cobbling something together

background: ive been shooting with a mavic 3 cine for about a year and a half, mostly real estate and some event work on the side. the image quality is honestly fine for what most clients want but ive started getting inquiries for some higher end commercial stuff where theyre asking specifically about larger sensor options and raw capture. so naturally im going down the rabbit hole of whether to go inspire 2 with the X7 or just build something around a mirrorless body on a proper 3-axis gimbal.

the inspire 2 x7 combo is obviously a known quantity and the integration is tight, dual operator mode is genuinely useful for the commercial stuff. but the cost is just brutal for where im at right now and there are parts availability concerns with DJI kind of moving away from that platform. on the other hand building a custom rig around something like a sony a7r with a movi or gremsy gimbal is way more flexible but ive seen enough horror stories about vibration and resonance issues when you start adding weight. curious if anyone has actually done both and has opinions that arent just youtube review takes.

went through exactly this decision about 18 months ago. ended up with the inspire 2 x7 and dont regret it but i will say the platform does feel like its on borrowed time from DJI's perspective which is a real concern if you're thinking long term. the image out of the X7 is genuinely excellent, the CinemaDNG is clean and the lens options are solid. but if i was starting fresh today i might seriously look at the Matrice 30 series or even wait to see what comes next because the Inspire 2 pricing on the used market has gotten weird.

custom builds with larger mirrorless bodies are more of a headache than people admit. vibration isolation is a whole science and getting a gremsy or freefly to play nicely with a heavier body when you also have lens options that shift the CG is not plug and play. ive seen setups that looked great on paper just jello constantly because someone underestimated resonant frequency of the arm configuration. if your time is worth anything the integrated solution probably makes more sense untill you have a specific reason you need the flexibility.
