Avata 2 vs original Avata ? worth the upgrade or just hype

  • Members

so ive been flying the original Avata since launch basically and im genuinely torn on whether to pull the trigger on the Avata 2. my V1 still flies fine, the goggles 2 combo works well enough for what i do which is mostly proximity flying in the woods near my house and the occasional trip to the beach. but ive been watching a bunch of footage comparisons and the image quality on the V2 does look noticeably cleaner especially in low light situations.

the thing that gets me is the price jump feels pretty steep when my current setup isnt broken. but also the O4 transmission and the improved obstacle avoidance might actually be useful for the tighter spots i fly. anyone whos actually made the jump ? do you feel it in day to day flying or is it mostly a spec sheet thing

made the switch about 3 months ago and honestly the low light improvement alone was worth it for me. i do a lot of dawn/dusk stuff and the V1 footage in those conditions was always kind of soft and noisy. V2 handles it way better. the RC Motion 3 controller also feels more refined, the thumbstick addition actually helps for some maneuvers even if it looked gimmicky in the announcement videos.

that said if youre mostly flying in decent light and you already have goggles 2 the differences are real but maybe not life changing. depends how much the footage quality matters vs just the experience of flying it i guess. obstacle avoidance is still not something id rely on in dense trees btw, it helps but you still gotta fly it yourself in tight spots.

i kept my V1 and dont regret it. the resale on the original dropped pretty hard after V2 launched so i just bought a second unit as a backup for like 60% of the original price. two Avatas and one set of goggles is honestly a better setup for me than upgrading. ymmv tho
