so ive had this cheap foam insert case i bought off amazon for like two years and the latch just snapped off completely at the airport last week. caught it before anything fell out but it was close. i fly a mini 3 pro and usually travel every couple months for work, sometimes checked luggage sometimes carry on depending on the flight.

been looking at the pelican 1510 because everyone seems to recommend it but honestly not sure if thats overkill for what i do or if i should just get one of the dji shoulder bags. the hard case thing appeals to me because id feel way less anxious about checked baggage handlers but they are heavy and kind of a pain to deal with at security.

also curious if anyone cuts their own foam or just buys the pre-cut stuff. i have zero experience with that and it seems like it could go wrong pretty easily if you dont measure right

pelican is absolutely worth it if you're checking bags, i wouldnt trust anything else honestly. i got the 1510 carry on version and cut my own foam using the pick and pluck method ? you basically just mark out the shape with a marker and pull out the cubes one at a time. takes maybe an hour the first time and it looks super clean when youre done. there are templates online for most popular drones but i just eyeballed it and it came out fine.

the weight thing is real though, fully loaded its not light. for carry on its usually fine but some budget airlines get strict about it so just double check their weight limits before you go.

i just use the dji fly bag and honestly it works fine for me, but i only do carry on so maybe thats why. for checked luggage id probably go hard case too, those baggage guys are not gentle lol
