Mini 3 Pro vs Air 3 ? is the price difference actually worth it for casual flying

  • Members

so ive been going back and forth on this for like two weeks now and i cant make up my mind. i mostly fly on weekends, mostly landscapes and the occasional family trip video, nothing crazy. my budget is kinda flexible but i dont want to spend money i dont need to spend if that makes sense.

the mini 3 pro feels like the obvious choice just because of the under 250g thing ? i travel a fair bit and not having to deal with registration in every country is genuinely useful. but then i look at the Air 3 and the dual cameras and omnidirectional obstacle avoidance and i start second guessing myself.

has anyone actually used both or switched between them? like does the Air 3 image quality make a real visible difference when youre just doing casual stuff and eventually throwing it on a youtube video or sending clips to family? or is the mini 3 pro genuinely good enough that id never feel like i was missing something

had the mini 3 pro for about 8 months before i upgraded to the Air 3 and honestly the jump in video quality is noticeable but maybe not in the way you'd expect. its not like night and day in good lighting, both look great. where the Air 3 really earns its money is low light and those medium tele shots with the 3x camera ? that thing is genuinely useful way more often than i thought it would be. the obstacle avoidance is also just way more confident, i trust it a lot more in tighter spaces.

that said if weight and travel convenience matter to you the mini 3 pro is not a compromise drone, its a seriously good drone. i dont regret owning it and if i was honest with myself and only ever did casual landscape stuff i probably couldve kept it. depends how much the 250g thing actually matters to your use case i think.

im in kind of the same boat as you actually, still havent pulled the trigger either. one thing i keep coming back to though is the RC 2 controller situation ? if you get the Air 3 with the RC 2 the combo price gets pretty steep pretty fast. just something to factor in if you havent already
