DJI T40 nozzle calibration troubleshooting - pressure inconsistencies at field edges

  • Members

Running into some frustrating issues with our new T40 during field mapping operations. The spray pressure drops significantly when making turns at field edges, causing uneven coverage patterns. Flight parameters are locked at 3m altitude, 4.5m/s speed, maintaining 0.6MPa pump pressure on straightaways.

Using TeeJet XR11002VS nozzles, tank is full (40L), RTK signal is solid. Coefficient of variation jumps to 15-18% during turns vs. 8% on straight runs. Anyone experienced similar pressure fluctuations with rotary disc atomizers? Could this be related to centrifugal forces affecting the pump during direction changes?

Already tried adjusting PID values and flow compensation settings in the controller.

  • Checked nozzle alignment - all within spec
  • Pump pressure sensor readings are stable
  • Flight controller shows no error codes

Maintaining pressure within ?2 psi keeps the Coefficient of Variation below 10 percent - sounds like your system is exceeding tolerance during turns. Check if your pump's pressure regulator valve is properly dampened. Sharp directional changes can cause pressure spikes in the hydraulic circuit.

Had similar issues on my T30. Batteries drive pump pressure and rotor RPM, both of which affect droplet size. Cold temps can chop flight time by 25 percent - are you monitoring battery voltage under load during turns? Also, try reducing turn radius in mission planning.

This could be related to the pump's response time to flow demand changes. During turns, the spray pattern geometry changes rapidly and the system might not be compensating fast enough. Try enabling adaptive flow control if your T40 has that feature, or reduce flight speed by 0.5m/s during field perimeter passes.
