ok so ive been researching this for way too long and i keep flip flopping so im just gonna ask here and hopefully someone can cut through the noise

im looking at the Avata 2 vs the DJI Neo. i fly mostly backyard stuff and some light outdoor freestyle, nothing crazy. i tried a friends FPV drone once and loved it but ive never owned one myself. budget is flexible but i dont want to spend more than i have to

most of what i read online either feels super biased toward whatever the person already owns or is written by someone who clearly got a review unit. the Avata 2 seems like the obvious choice for a beginner FPV experience but the price jump is significant and i keep reading that the Neo is actually more fun for casual stuff. then i read the opposite the next day

i dont have a massive need for raw performance. i mostly want something that feels cool to fly and maybe do some indoor acro stuff at some point. anyone actually own both or switched from one to the other?

had the Neo for a couple months before picking up the Avata 2 and honestly they're for pretty different things even though on paper they seem close. the Neo is super fun and almost toy-like in the best way ? great for noodling around and learning the feel of FPV without being terrified every flight. but once i got used to it i started wanting more control and that's where the Avata 2 fills the gap

if youve never owned an FPV drone and you're not 100% sure you'll stick with it, get the Neo first. its cheaper and if you crash it its not the end of the world. you can always step up later. if you already know you love FPV then skip to the Avata 2 and dont look back

i went through the exact same thing lol. ended up with the Avata 2 and dont regret it but honestly the Neo wouldve been fine for what i actually use it for. the motion controller on the Avata 2 is really intuitive though if you havent flown FPV before, way less intimidating than i expected
