ok so ive been flying a Mavic Air 2 for about two years and im pretty comfortable with that but ive been getting really into the FPV stuff lately from watching videos and i want to get into it. the Avata 2 looks really good and the whole self-contained thing is appealing because honestly i dont have time to learn to build and tune a whole quad right now.

but then i keep seeing people say that buying a prebuilt cinewhoop like a Geprc or whatever is just as easy and youll have more flexibility and its cheaper in the long run. the problem is i dont know if thats actually true or if thats just the DIY crowd being snobby about the DJI ecosystem thing, which im not trying to get into tbh

i mostly want to do indoor stuff, some outdoor in tighter spaces, and just generally get the feel for FPV flying. i dont have a massive budget, probably capping at like 800 bucks all in. what would you actually do

if your budget is $800 and you want to actually fly and not spend weekends troubleshooting PIDs and reflashing firmware, just get the Avata 2. i say that as someone who builds his own stuff. the DJI goggles integration is genuinely smooth and for learning FPV it removes so many variables. you can always go down the rabbit hole later once you know if you actually like the feeling of FPV or if it makes you motion sick, which happens to more people than they admit lol

the prebuilt cinewhoop argument is real but its not as plug and play as people make it sound, you still need to set up a radio, get a VTX sorted, configure betaflight at least a little. its not crazy hard but its not nothing either

i went through exactly this decision last year and ended up with the Avata 2 and honestly no regerts. the one thing nobody told me was how different the muscle memory is from a regular drone, like my Mavic habits kept messing me up at first. took me probably 3 or 4 sessions before it started clicking. also if you do go that route get the motion controller for messing around and then switch to the actual stick controller once you want more precision, the motion controller is fun but its limiting
