this has been driving me absolutely nuts for about two weeks now. im using an RS3 on my a7iv setup and maybe 20-30 minutes into a shoot the gimbal just slowly starts rolling to the left. not all at once, just creeping. if i power cycle it rebalances itself fine and its good for another 15-20 minutes then same thing happens again.

ive rebalanced the rig like four times. tried resetting the motor calibration. updated firmware to the latest. the payload is within spec, i actually have it slightly under the max. nothing feels physically loose. DJI support just told me to rebalance which i had already done approximately one million times before contacting them.

reading around and someone mentioned it could be a IMU temperature drift thing that gets worse as the motors warm up but im not sure if thats actually a thing or someone just guessing. anyone dealt with this or have any idea what im missing here.

the IMU drift thing is real but usually more of a gradual horizon drift not a roll like that. what you're describing sounds more mechanical to me ? like either the roll motor is losing steps under load or there's some flex somewhere in the mounting plate that builds up over time as things warm up and expand slightly. i'd look really closely at where the camera mounts to the gimbal plate, like physically wiggle everything with it powered on and see if you can get the roll axis to budge manually even a tiny bit.

also worth checking if the issue correlates with ambient temp. i had a gimbal do something similar and it only happened when shooting outdoors in summer, indoors it was fine, which pointed to thermal stuff.

dont rule out the lens weight distribution either. even if the total payload is within spec if the center of gravity shifts because of a heavy lens putting the balance point slightly off the roll axis it can cause the motor to fight itself over time. what lens are you running with it
