Air 3 keeps doing that weird thing where it drifts a bit on takeoff ? normal?

  • Members

so ive had my Air 3 for about 3 months now and i mostly love it but theres this thing it does when i first take off where it kind of nudges sideways maybe half a meter before it stabilizes. happens maybe 1 in 4 flights. im always in an open field so its not like its reacting to anything near it.

im on the latest firmware, calibrated the IMU when i first got it, and i do let it sit for the GPS to lock before i take off. just wondering if anyone else sees this or if mine has a problem. dont really want to send it in if its just a quirk

yeah mine does this occasionally, had a mild panic the first time too. from what i understand its pretty normal if there's any slight wind at ground level ? the motors spin up and it catches a little gust before it gets stable. i started doing a manual takeoff instead of using the auto launch and it feels a lot more predictable honestly. also worth recalibrating the compass if you havent done that recently, not just the IMU. helped a bit for me.

this happened to me too on my second flight ever and i freaked out lol. my friend who flies a lot told me to check that the props are seated all the way on ? apparently if ones even slightly loose it can cause weird behavior right at takeoff. probably not your issue if its been 3 months but worth a quick check anyway
