went to my first organized fly-in last sunday and honestly it was kinda overwhelming at first. like everyone seemed to already know each other and i just kind of stood there holding my mini 3 pro feeling like an idiot. eventually one of the guys came over and asked what i was flying and that kind of broke the ice. we ended up doing this loose formation thing over the field which i was nervous about but actually went fine. one dude had a massive fixed wing that scared the hell out of me every time it buzzed past but he clearly knew what he was doing. def going back next month, just wish i knew someone going in beforehand so i wasnt walking in cold

that first one is always awkward, same thing happened to me. after you go a couple times you realize its mostly the same people every month and then it clicks. the fixed wing guys are usually the most experienced pilots there honestly, they take airspace management pretty seriously

formation flying with strangers sounds stressful tbh, how close were you actually getting? i feel like without some kind of comms setup that could go wrong fast
