ok so ive been flying analog for about 3 years now, running HDO2s with a TBS Unify Pro32 HV on most of my quads and honestly i thought i was pretty happy with the setup. then a buddy let me fly through his DJI O3 system for like 20 minutes last weekend and now i cant stop thinking about it.

the latency felt fine to me, i know thats always the big argument against digital but i genuinely didnt notice a difference that would affect my flying. the image quality though... like its not even close right? im used to analog looking good on a cloudy day in an open field but the moment you get near trees or anything with interference the image just falls apart and ive sort of accepted that as normal.

anyway my actual question is ? for someone doing mostly freestyle and the occasional race, is the jump worth it or am i going to regret selling my analog stack. also does anyone know if the O3 plays nicely with aftermarket antennas or are you basically locked into whatever DJI ships with it

the antenna thing with O3 is actually where it gets interesting. the air unit uses LHCP u.FL connectors and you can absolutely swap them out, most people run lollipop or pagoda style antennas and see a noticeable range improvement especially if youre flying in spots with a lot of multipath interference. the stock antennas arent bad but theyre not optimized for anything specific either, just kind of generic.

on the goggles side the V2s have SMA ports so thats a lot easier to work with, you can run patch antennas on one port and an omni on the other which is what i do for longer range stuff. for pure freestyle in a field the stock setup is probably fine but if you ever want to push distance youll want to think about it.

as for the analog vs digital debate, i mean yeah the image clarity is genuinely better but you will hit a wall if you fly in areas with 5.8 congestion from other DJI users. its not a perfect system, nothing is.

sold my HDOs like 8 months ago and dont miss them tbh. the only thing i miss is being able to fly at a park with randos who also have analog setups without worrying about channel conflicts, DJI's channel management is a bit of a black box compared to just slapping a 5705 sticker on your quad and calling it done.

latency is whatever, anyone who says analog is faster in a way that actually matters for freestyle is coping a little. the clarity in trees is where digital wins and loses at the same time honestly ? you can SEE more but when it does break up it breaks up differently than analog snow, some people hate the digital breakup more. just something to be aware of before you commit
