so im heading to iceland for like 10 days and obviously bringing the mini 4 pro. ive been doing some research on the rules there and honestly its a bit confusing. most of the national parks seem to be no fly zones or at least heavily restricted and i cant tell if you need a permit or just register or both. anyone actually flown there recently and can tell me how it actually works in practice vs what the rules say on paper

also curious about the wind, ive heard it can be absolutely brutal even in summer. like is it even worth bringing it or am i just gonna be frustrated the whole time

flew there two summers ago and yeah the wind is no joke. i had days where i just left the drone in the bag because it wasnt worth the risk. that said when conditions are good its probably the most insane footage ive ever gotten, the landscape is just unreal. vatnajokull area was incredible when i got a calm morning window around 6am

for the rules i registered on the icelandic transport authority site before going, took maybe 20 minutes. inside the national parks though you really do need a permit and from what i remember getting one is kind of a pain, most people just dont fly there and stick to areas outside the park boundaries. there are still plenty of jaw dropping spots that are totally fine to fly

cant help with iceland specifically but i will say always download the offline maps for whatever airspace app you use before you go because data roaming can be sketchy in remote areas and you really dont want to be guessing whether youre in restricted airspace or not
