so ive been flying for about a year now and i feel like my footage is getting better technically but something still feels off when i watch it back. like the shots are exposed fine and in focus but they just dont have that... quality? that i see in the videos i want to make. im using a mini 3 pro and i shoot in d-log mostly.

i think the issue might be my movement speed but i genuinely cant tell if im moving too fast or too slow. the reveal shots especially, like when you pull back and tilt up at the same time, mine always look slightly jerky even when i thought i was being smooth on the sticks. is this a practice thing or is there some setting i should be changing? someone told me to mess with the expo curves but i havent touched those yet because honestly im scared of breaking something lol

also not sure if this is related but should i be shooting 4k60 or is 4k30 actually better for the cinematic look? i see people argue both ways

the expo curves thing is actually worth doing, dont be scared of it. basically you want to flatten the curve around the center so small stick inputs dont translate to big movements. i think on most dji aircraft the default is already a bit softened but you can push it further. once i did this my slow pulls got way more controllable.

the 4k30 vs 60 debate is kind of personal preference honestly but for the cinematic look most people shoot 30fps or even 24fps because it has that slight motion blur that feels more like film. if you shoot 60 it looks more like a sports broadcast which isnt what you want for moody landscape stuff. the trick some people use is shoot 4k60 and then slow it down to 24fps in post which gives you 2.5x slow motion which is really nice for those reveal shots. just eats storage fast.

and yeah the double movement stuff like pulling back while tilting up takes a lot of practice. i used to do it manually but now i kind of feel out the rhythm before the shot even starts, like i think about how fast the scene is changing and match my speed to that. hard to explain but it clicks eventually

omg same problem here, i thought it was just me. my footage always looks like i filmed it on a nervous day even when i was being super careful lol. someone in another thread mentioned that flying in cine mode helps a lot for these kinds of shots because it caps the max speed and makes everything feel more floaty. i tried it and it did help though it does feel super sluggish when youre used to normal mode
