so ive been building my own quads for about 3 years now and honestly im just tired of the build process at this point. not that i dont enjoy it but i have like 4 projects half done on my bench and zero motivation to finish any of them. been looking at just grabbing something ready to fly that i can actually tune and fly instead of spending weekends soldering.

been eyeing the iflight chimera7 pro but also the diatone roma f5 v2 keeps coming up whenever i search around. budget is somewhere around 250-300 dollars ideally. mostly freestyle, some light cruising, not racing. running a walksnail avatar setup so id need to either swap video or get one that comes with analog and upgrade later.

anyone actually flown both of these or have strong opinions either way? also wondering if prebuilts are genuinely harder to tune or if thats just something people say to justify building their own

had the roma f5 v2 for about 6 months and overall its been solid. stock tune is actually pretty decent for a prebuilt, better than i expected honestly. the motors they ship it with run warm but not dangerously so. i did end up reflashing betaflight and starting from scratch on the tune because the stock pid profile had some weird roll/pitch asymmetry that was driving me nuts in tight gaps. took maybe an hour to get it feeling right with rpm filter on.

for walksnail you'll be doing a vtx swap anyway so that part doesnt really matter when choosing. just check the stack has clean 5v and 9v rails, the diatone ESCs usually play nice. one thing i will say is the frame arms on mine cracked after a pretty moderate crash, replacement arms are cheap but its worth knowing.

prebuilts being harder to tune is kind of a myth imo, or at least its not the frame thats the issue. the real problem is you dont always know what components youre working with until you dig into the betaflight configurator. like some of these manufacturers use house-brand ESCs with questionable firmware and you end up spending time figuring out why your throttle response feels mushy before realizing the ESC needs a blheli reflash or something. but thats a one time thing and then youre just tuning a quad like any other quad.
