so anyway went to my first actual community fly-in thing last month and i dunno, it was fun but also kind of weird. everyone sort of does their own thing and theres no real coordination so you just have like 8 drones all in the air at the same time going different directions and im just standing there trying not to fly into someone elses mavic. nobody crashed or anything but i kept being paranoid the whole time. is this just how these events go or am i overthinking it

yeah thats pretty normal lol, the bigger organized ones sometimes have a flight director or whatever they call it who designates takeoff spots and general zones but the casual meetup ones are just vibes. you get used to it. after a while you kind of develop an awareness of whats around you even without looking directly. also most people are flying slow enough that its not actually that dangerous, just looks chaotic

honestly same experience here. i think the unspoken thing is everyone just kinda stays at their own altitude range without talking about it, like the fpv guys hug the ground and the camera drone people go up higher. it works out most of the time but yeah it does feel a little stressful at first when your used to flying solo
