thinking about organizing a local group flight, no idea where to start

so ive been flying for about two years now and i literally dont know a single person locally who does this. found a few people online who seem to be in my area but we've never actually met up. i keep thinking it would be cool to just pick a spot and say hey lets all show up saturday morning or whatever but i dont really know how you go about it without it turning into a whole thing with permits and insurance and all that

is it even worth trying to organize something informal or does that always end up being a headache

just do it man, pick a field that's already a known flying spot so you dont have to deal with permission stuff, post it on a local facebook group or whatever and just show up. worst case nobody comes and you fly by yourself which you were gonna do anyway. best case you meet some people. ive done this a few times and it snowballed into a proper club eventually

I tried this last spring and honestly the hardest part was just picking a date and committing to it. People kept asking about backup dates in case of rain and it almost fell apart before it started lol. In the end like 6 people showed up and it was actually really fun, one guy brought a whole toolbox which saved my session when i stripped a motor screw. definitely worth doing even if its a small turnout
