ok so this is kind of embarassing but figured id share since i see people on here asking about what group flights are actually like. joined a local facebook group a while back and they organized a morning fly at this big open field, showed up thinking id just blend in and fly my little freestyle quad. turns out like half these guys are flying 10 inch long range builds and giant fixed wings and i show up with my 5 inch and immediately get all these questions about what stack im running and i just kind of blanked lol. then i arm my quad and for some reason my rates were completely off, thing just shot sideways and nearly clipped someones wing before i killed the throttle. nobody said anything rude about it but man i wanted to disappear. stayed for like another hour though and it ended up being fine, talked to a few people and one of the older guys had a whole portable setup with a soldering iron and spare parts which i thought was pretty cool

anyway if youre nervous about going to one of these just go, worst case you feel awkward for a bit

haha the guy with the portable soldering setup is at every single meetup i have ever been to and i respect it deeply

this is literally me at my first one except i forgot to charge my batteries so i just watched other people fly for two hours. still had a good time weirdly. people at these things are usually pretty welcoming once you stop feeling weird about it
