flying in Costa Rica next month, what do i need to know

  • Members

so im heading to Costa Rica in about 5 weeks and obviously bringing the mini 3 pro. ive done a bit of research and it seems like you technically need some kind of permit from the DGAC but everything i find online is either outdated or contradicts something else. anyone actually flown there recently and gone through the process? or did you just kind of... not bother and it was fine. not trying to get my drone confiscated at customs so just want to know what people actually do vs what the rules say on paper

went in march, brought my air 2s. honestly customs didnt even ask about it, just had it in my backpack. i did look into the permit thing and from what i could tell the online system was basically broken and nobody i talked to at the hotel had any idea what i was on about. flew around manual antonio and a few beach spots without any issues. just stayed away from the national park areas and used the b4ufly equivalent they have, i think its called something like droneiq or similar. common sense stuff really

careful near the volcanoes btw, theres a lot of restricted airspace around arenal at least that showed up on my app when i checked. didnt actually try to fly there so dunno how enforced it is but wasnt worth risking it
