flying in Iceland next month - anyone done this before

so im heading to Iceland in about 5 weeks and obviously bringing the mini 3 pro. ive done some research on the rules there and from what i can tell it's mostly Category Open A1/A3 stuff since they follow EASA regs but honestly some of the wording on the transport authority site is confusing as hell. like there are certain areas near Reykjavik that seem restricted but i cant tell if that's just the urban zone thing or actual no fly zones that are hard coded into the firmware.

also wondering about the weather - i know its windy there but like HOW windy. my drone can handle 10.7 m/s supposedly but ive read people saying the gusts come out of nowhere especially near the coast and around the geysers. last thing i want is to lose it over some lava field. anyone actually flown there and can give me a realistic picture of what to expect

flew there two summers ago with my mavic air 2 and yeah the wind is no joke. the forecast will say 15 kmh and then you turn a corner on some ridge and its just chaos. i lost like 40% battery fighting wind on one flight near Skogafoss that should have been a 20 minute session. just keep your return to home altitude set high because there are some weird terrain features that can mess with line of sight.

the airspace stuff is generally fine away from the capital. i used the Samgöngustofa website and also just checked in DJI fly before each flight. never had any issues but i also wasnt trying to fly near anything obviously sensitive. the highland interior in summer is just stunning btw, totally worth it.

dont forget to register if you havent already, i think you need an EASA operator ID and it needs to be on the drone physically. i almost got caught out with this in Norway which has similar rules. probably fine but worth double checking before you go rather than scrambling at the airport lol
