  • Members

so im heading to costa rica for like 3 weeks and obviously the mavic is coming with me. ive done a bit of research and from what i can tell you technically need a permit from the DGAC but every post i find is from like 2019 so no idea if that's still current. anyone actually flown there recently? especially interested in the Osa Peninsula area and maybe around arenal. i know national parks are basically a no-go everywhere in central america but figured id ask

the DGAC registration requirement is still a thing as far as i know but enforcement is pretty spotty outside of the main airports. that said arenal has a lot of restricted airspace around the volcano

went to manuel antonio last year and honestly just asked at the hotel and they pointed me to a local guide who knew all the good spots outside the park boundaries. the permit thing i just never dealt with and had zero issues but i was also not flying anywhere near people or the park so maybe got lucky. the light there in the mornings is absolutely insane btw, worth setting an alarm for

the DGAC registration requirement is still a thing as far as i know but enforcement is pretty spotty outside of the main airports. that said arenal has a lot of restricted airspace around the volcano itself so definitely check on airmap or something before you go up. dont want to be that guy who causes an incident in a foreign country, fines can get ugly
