okay so i know the Mavic 3 Pro has three lenses built in and for most stuff it's genuinely great but ive been doing some commercial work lately where clients are starting to ask specifically about sensor size and raw files and i keep having to explain the 4/3 main sensor situation. ive been looking at the DJI Matrice 30 or even going used on an Inspire 2 with a Zenmuse X7 which has that Super 35 sensor. the X7 footage in CinemaDNG is just on a different level but the whole system is so much heavier and more expensive to run.

honestly im not sure if the clients actually care about the final image or if they just want to feel like they're getting a big camera. ive had people turn down Mavic footage that looked stunning because they saw the specs, and then they paid twice as much for Inspire footage that looked... similar after grading. not always but sometimes. so i guess my question is does the larger sensor actually matter in your real-world experience or is it mostly a spec sheet thing at this point

dynamic range is where you actually feel the differnece, not really sharpness. the X7 in low light or when you have a scene with bright sky and dark shadows, it just holds more information and you have way more room in post. on a sunny day with controlled lighting honestly the gap is smaller than people expect. but when conditions get tricky the bigger sensor earns its keep pretty fast. that said if clients are happy and your Mavic footage is passing their quality bar, chasing the spec sheet upgrade is kind of a money pit especially with how much the Inspire system costs to maintain and insure.

ive shot both and honestly for web delivery and even broadcast the difference is there but its not enormous after a good grade. where it really shows up is if they want to do heavy crop in post or use the footage at 4K on a big screen with side by side comparisons. the bigger thing nobody talks about is the stabilization difference ? a well tuned Zenmuse gimbal with that 3-axis isolation is noticeably smoother in windy conditions than what you get on consumer drones, and that can matter more than sensor size for certain types of shots
