Inspire 3 X9-8K Air vs Inspire 2 X7 - Worth the upgrade for cinema work?

  • Members

Looking at upgrading from my Inspire 2 + X7 setup to the new Inspire 3 with the X9-8K Air. I'm doing primarily commercial cinema work and need to justify the cost difference.

The 8K sensor and ProRes RAW capability looks impressive, but how much of an improvement is the image quality in real-world conditions? The X7 already produces excellent 6K CinemaDNG.

Anyone made this jump and can share actual field experiences? Particularly interested in low-light performance, dynamic range improvements, and whether the workflow changes are significant.

Keep the I2+X7 for now. The X7's 14 stops dynamic range is still excellent, and 6K CinemaDNG workflow is proven. Unless you're specifically needing 8K delivery or full-frame sensor characteristics, the I2 is still a workhorse.
