switching from fat shark to HDO2 - worth it for analog still?

  • Members

so ive been running dominator v3s for like 3 years now and honestly they've been fine but everyone keeps telling me the HDO2s are a massive upgrade. my question is whether its actually worth dropping that money when im still flying analog. i know the whole world is moving to digital but im not there yet, still got a bunch of whoop builds and a couple 5inch quads all running vtx setups so analog is my daily driver for now.

the thing that actually got me thinking about this was i flew with a guy at the field last weekend who had the HDO2s and honestly the image did look noticeably sharper even on analog. like way less eye strain after a long session. my v3s have been giving me headaches lately which might just be my digi module or my antennas honestly but still.

anyone gone from older fat sharks to HDO2 on pure analog use, was it actually noticeable or am i just gonna drop 400 bucks and feel like an idiot

yeah the jump is real, i did exactly this about a year ago. the OLED panels in the HDO2 make a genuine difference even on analog. like you're not magically getting more resolution from your vtx signal obviously but the way the screen renders it just feels cleaner, less of that fuzzy smearing you get with the v3 screens. the FOV is also bigger which helped my eye strain a lot.

that said if your actual problem is antenna related or your vtx is putting out garbage signal then no goggle upgrade is gonna fix that. id maybe check what antennas you're running first because ive seen guys running stock dipoles wondering why their image is noisy and its like... yeah. throw a pagoda on the quad and a lollipop or patch on the goggles and see if that changes anything before spending 400.

i made this switch and dont regret it but also i moved to digital like 2 months later so maybe im not the best person to ask lol. the HDO2s do work great with the DJI module if you ever go that route fwiw
