my first group flight was kind of a mess tbh

ok so ive been flying solo for about a year and finally went to one of those organized group fly days at the airfield near me. and like, it was fun but also kind of overwhelming. nobody told me there was like an informal frequency check thing you were supposed to do before you arm and i guess my vtx was interfering with someones goggle feed and they had to land. felt really bad about it

the guy was cool about it but i felt like an idiot. are there usually rules or etiquette things you're supposed to know before showing up to these? would have been nice if someone put that somewhere obvious. anyway still glad i went, met some cool people and watched some guys run gates who were really good

happens to everyone at least once dont sweat it. most clubs have a frequency board or someone running the event will do a quick briefing but not all of them bother especially if its informal. just ask when you arrive if theres anything you need to know, people are usually pretty helpful about it

yeah the etiquette stuff is mostly just passed down by word of mouth which is kind of annoying if youre new. vtx channel conflicts are super common at group flights, some events are moving to just requiring pit mode until youre at the flight line but not everyome does that yet. glad you had a decent time tho, those early events where something goes wrong are weirdly the ones you remember the most
