customs took forever because of my batteries lol

just got back from japan. incredible trip, flew in like 4 or 5 different spots including up near fuji which was surreal. but man the customs situation on the way back through narita was a whole thing. they pulled me aside for like 40 minutes because of my lipo batteries in my carry on. i had 4 intelligent flight batteries for the mavic 3 plus a couple extra 18650s for my goggles and they wanted to check every single one and see watt hour ratings.

everything was totally legal and within the airline limits but the agent just wasnt familiar with drone batteries specifically i think. anyway all good in the end but just heads up if youre flying out of japan bring documentation for your batteries or at least know the wh ratings off the top of your head so you can explain it quickly. wasted almost missed my connection

ugh this happened to me in dubai too. i now just write the wh rating on a little piece of tape on each battery. sounds dumb but it honestly speeds things up because the agent doesnt have to try and find the label themselves which is usually on the bottom and hard to read

Japan is on my list for sure. was the DJI fly app working fine there for airspace checks or did you need something else? ive heard some areas near shrines and parks have strict no fly rules and its not always obvious from the app
