First time at a drone meetup - what should I expect?

  • Members

Hey everyone! I just bought my first drone (DJI Mini 4 Pro) last month and found a local meetup group. Really nervous about going to my first event next weekend - I've only flown in my backyard so far!

What do people usually do at these gatherings? Do I need to bring anything specific besides my drone? And honestly... will people judge a total beginner? I'm still working on smooth landings and worry I'll look like an idiot.

Seriously, drone people are the friendliest community I've ever encountered. I crashed my first drone 3 times at my first meetup and everyone just laughed WITH me, not at me. You'll learn more in one session than weeks of solo flying.

The Mini 4 Pro is a great starter choice! At our local group we usually spend time sharing tips, maybe do some group photos if the location allows, and just fly together. Some folks bring snacks to share too.

Main thing - make sure your batteries are charged and you've done the compass calibration beforehand.
