yeah so this happened. flying into morocco last week and customs just pulled it out of my bag and said i needed a permit i didnt have. i did research beforehand i swear, everything i read said tourists can bring drones for personal use no problem. apparently that changed or the rules are just enforced totally inconsistently depending on which customs officer you get. they held it the whole trip and i got it back on the way out.

lost basically my whole plan for the trip photography wise which sucked. anyone else had something like this happen? feels like half the countries out there the official rules and the actual on the ground reality are two completely different things

this is exactly why i always carry printed copies of whatever official guidance i can find, not that it always helps but at least you have something to point to. morocco has been weird about drones for a while, ive heard stories like yours before. some people get through no problem, others get hassled. its so inconsistent its almost useless to even prepare sometimes

that happend to my buddy in egypt, different country obviously but same vibe where the written rules dont match what actually happens at customs. he just shipped his drone home before he landed and rented a local guys drone for a day which ended up being a cool experience actually. not ideal but worth knowing thats an option in some places
